Reflection on 20/10/2020

The reason why I don't want to do all the 15 tasks is that I know what I'm good at and not. I don't want to spend too much time on the stuff that I know that won't going to work. I have been studying visual arts in the college in Hong Kong for two years, and two years of A-Level Fine Art in the UK college. For illustration, my attempts are pencil drawings and iPad drawing, I'm thinking of using Conte or ink for the other illustrations. I am planning to make a 3D work have bought some silver-plated wire. I'm also thinking of making an album cover and poster design. I made a small gif video of folding a Paper Fortune Teller. I will be using photoshop for editing my work. For the 5-7 pages question, I'm thinking of making a small storybook. To be honest, I think I'm mainly focusing on the illustration side of the communication pathway as this is what I'm really interested in.

About the commemorate question, I would like to say my childhood is what I really want to commemorate. As I don't remember a lot from my childhood, the remaining memories are the most important thing for me. I remember when I was a kid I used to pick the 'rubbish' because I thought they are like some abandoned treasure. Maybe the dumped objects we found on the street are some sorts of 'the guardian or god of the ordinary'. These abandoned objects or 'garbage' is a device to carry and record our habits or memories. They are proof of our daily life. I sometimes feel like I can 'communicate' with or feel the 'souls' within these abandoned objects. When I saw them, it's like making 'eye-contact' with their souls...

I will definitely say I'm more a fine art person, I developed the habit of picking and collecting random stuff on the street (sounds like a homeless people seeking clothes and food on the street) because of studying fine-art and history of art. Dadaism has a great impact pf me, the idea of collecting abandoned objects and fragments on the street and turn them into a piece in your art. Also, the idea of using found objects. However, illustration, photography, animation and film are still my favourite media. They inspired me to persuade the road of art.

For the project, it seems like the quantity is more important than the quality as our tutor says he wants us to experiments more and do as many tasks as possible. But it just seems like three days are too short for me to create something that I will feel satisfied. In fact, it's easier to finish the communication pathway tasks as it doesn't require any deep meaning behind our work.

I will try to make paper fortune tellers in fabric tomorrow. And probably finish some illustrations and drawings, also, to edit the videos and the photos I took.
